4 Fingerboard Videos Before Tech Deck Existed

All right class. It's time for a fingerboard history lesson! In today's lesson, we will be looking deep into antiquity. So far back, there was not even a Tech Deck in existence. We've uncovered four videos from our archeological vault and are happy to share them with you!

Fingerskate Embryo

Year Released: 1996
Rider(s): Damien Bernadet & Tony Pauthex

This video features fingerboard legends Damien Bernadet (founder of Closeup Fingerboards) and Tony Pauthex. If this duo looks familiar to you, it's because they were featured in the famous 411VM produced flick Fingers of Fury. The fingerboard pants/shoe trend could very well have it's roots here! Ollie impossibles, kickflip to grinds and slides, and a massive kickflip transfer from a bathtub to a sink, there are many ground breaking tricks in this video!

I Love Concord

Year Released: 1993
Rider(s): Denis Stimac

This skateboard video realeased in 1993 features the fingerboarding of Denis Stimac, later known from his videos on skateboardnaked.com. His part blends skateboarding and fingerboarding. That kickflip at 7:17 in is super stylish!

Pissing Fingers

Year Released: 2003 (Footage from late-80's)
Rider(s): Martin Winkler

Arguably the most legendary fingerboarder of all-time, Martin has been fingerboarding since the 80's. While this video was released in 2003, it showcases fingerboard footage from the late 80's and early 90's. It's amazing to see how similar his style was back in 1988. Showcasing kickflip into grinds as well as his signature transition flow, this video part is a real treat for any fingerboard fan!

Future Primitive

Year Released: 1987
Rider(s): Lance Mountain

All right, this is the one you've all been waiting for. The Powell Peralta video Future Primitive brought fingerboarding to a whole generation. Skateboard legend Lance Mountain "trains" in a metal double sink. His methodical style would fit quite well with the current style trends in fingerboarding. With tricks ranging from handplants, 5-0's and even an axle stall spine transfer.

Chris Daniels

Chris Daniels

A pioneer in the English-speaking fingerboard scene, he has moderated and administrated multiple major fingerboard forums including RZF and FingerFlipInc (FFI). In 2008, he founded the global fingerboard community FBWeekly as a way to connect fingerboard scenes around the world in one portal. With over 20 authors representing fingerboarders from around the world, FBWeekly quickly became an important source for fingerboard news.
